Curriculum

"Pupils study a highly ambitious curriculum, which starts in the early years. They work hard without interruptions or distraction. Attitudes towards learning are overwhelmingly positive." (OFSTED - 2024)

Curriculum Intent

At St Helen's Catholic Infant School, our intent is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which develops children’s independence and resilience.

  • To ensure it is broad and balanced we use key texts from ‘The Power of Reading’ as a starting point in each year group and plan foundation subjects around it. This ensures a cross-curricular approach.
  • We enrich the curriculum further with a cultural calendar which enhances children’s understanding of diversity and celebrates differences/similarities in line with our mission statement.
  • We have embedded a Teaching and Learning Framework of strategies adopted in each class to ensure independence and resilience skills are developed across the curriculum.

This ensures that children have a lifelong love of learning and are equipped for the next stage of their journey.

"The school equips pupils with the skills to become life-long learners and active Christian citizens." (CSI Inspection - 2023)
